We stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s oldest, continuous living culture. For more than 50,000 years, our Indigenous people have been caretakers of this land, with the wisdom and knowledge of millenniums to share. NAIDOC celebrations are an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on and respect the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the fabric of our nation.
This year’s NAIDOC week celebrations are themed ‘Get up! Stand up! Show up!’. We have the honour of working with several Indigenous organisations who get up, stand up, and show up, every day. Through the provision of culturally sensitive services to the communities in which they live and work, they are driving grass roots, community-based efforts to close the many gaps that our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can fall through. We stand in awe of the challenges they take on, their drive for positive change, and the impact they have.
It is incumbent upon all of us to get up, stand up, and show up. To step out from behind barriers forged by injustice, inequity, discrimination, and shame. To stand up and demand the construct of bonds underpinned by decency, mutual respect, and kindness. And to show up, every day, working towards a place that all Australians, regardless of colour, creed, persuasion, ability, geography, or history have the opportunity to live their lives in safety, with respect, acceptance, and opportunity.
On behalf of the Cloudwize team, we particularly celebrate the achievements of our many Indigenous colleagues and friends and vow to play our part; to get up, stand up, and show up.
Happy NAIDOC week!
